The Irrational Road Trip
Wednesday, September 3, 2008 at 19:49 It seemed like a good idea. Just grab your car keys and take your bikes, shove them into the back of a Toyota needing the jaws of life to get them out later and head off to some place green again. With no intention of staying overnight, without fresh clothes or so much as a toothbrush. Heck, we have credit cards, let's be totally free and wild, adventure awaits. So began the delusional but insanely fun last trip of the summer of 08. No more beach for me. I'm heading to the mountains.

Janet and I aimed the car at Lake Waywayonda, somewhere near the Northeast border of New Jersey, about an hour away, or so said the guy at the bike store. Well, the driver (no names mentioned) was a little out of sorts at the prospect of leaving in a state of unpreparedness, would her cats eat each other if not fee the next morning?
For many reasons the Rt. 3 exit that would take us to Rt. 46 somehow proved elusive, and soon we were headed West - WAY West- before correcting course. The map was passed to me. I laughed "I don't know how to read these things, I grew up in Brooklyn. Where is my GPS? Opps I forgot it. I get sick when I look at this thing while we're moving."
We threw the map in the back. Much, much, much later that day, we found Mountain Creek Resort- a bustling ski resort in the winter, but that afternoon was more reminiscent of 'The Shining. Here we go again.
